use case

Linear Infrastructure Model

To be used to assist with the design and construction of linear asset/networks of the built environment. Could include typical 4D/5D, VR/AR outputs.

W2B: Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway Upgrade Project

Objective

Optimise program delivery for complex infrastructure integrating engineering and program delivery systems, in particular by connecting 3D geometry, spatial and tabular datasets, supporting activities such as clash detection, visualisation, component tracking and quantity estimation.

Approach

Develop standards for software agnostic 3D models . Each layer, surface and component were rigorously named with a unique ID Attribute tag, to enable maximum integration with the logistics, planning, project control and cost control systems.

Outcomes

Increase efficiency in the design and construction process. This protocol was used on later TfNSW projects to standardise 3D models for road design.
